Portion of trail closed in Village of Whiting

A short section of the Green Circle in the Village of Whiting that parallels Babcock St. is now permanently closed. The new connector route follows the sidewalk on Whiting Rd. Direction signs have been posted. Click the map below for details.

This is the first phase of an exciting project that will reroute about 1.2 miles of the Green Circle from a sidewalk to a scenic corridor along the Wisconsin River on the former Whiting Paper Mill land (west side of Whiting Rd). We hope to have the new route completed by Fall of 2018.

Welcome Message

The Green Circle is a 27-mile scenic hiking and biking trail that loops through the Stevens Point area and connects with over 45 miles of additional trails. It winds through forests and parks, over wetlands, and along rivers, recalling the days of huge pineries, pioneer settlements, and the lore of the Wisconsin and Plover Rivers.

Current Trail Conditions

Thanks to the hard work of the Stevens Point and Portage County Parks crews, all sections of the Green Circle Trail are now open for use again after major flooding this spring. Some areas may still be soggy, so please use caution when out on the trail.

A portion of the Plover River Trail remains closed due to the construction of the Plover River Crossing trail spur. Please follow the detour along Barbara’s Lane.
